Philanthropy

Kappa Delta is proud to partner with many philanthropic organizations such as Prevent Child Abuse America, Girl Scouts of America, the Children’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, and the Orthopedic Research Awards.  KD hosts “Shamrock Events” throughout the country in which members volunteer their time to raise money for local and national child abuse prevention.  This project has enabled Kappa Delta to contribute over $7.1 million to charity since the project began in 1981.

Chapter member’s also work with local Girl Scout troops, either leading a troop or hosting events for the scouts to attend such as Saturday events throughout the semester where volunteers spend the day participating in activities and games with a specific troop.  In addition, Kappa Delta has donated $10,000 annually to the “Girl Scout Gold Award Program.”

Since 1921, members of Kappa Delta have supported the Children’s Hospital in Virginia, contributing over $2.2 million. These contributions have made possible the development a motion clinic, the purchase of hospital equipment, medical braces and neurosurgical instruments, and provided playground equipment and purchased vans to transport patients.

Kappa Delta partnered with the AmericanAcademy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) in 1947 and today, presents three $20,000 awards annually to leading Orthopaedic researchers.

Also, Epsilon chapter contributes to the local Baton Rouge community by visiting local nursing homes as well as the children’s ward at Our Lady of the LakeMedicalCenter throughout the semester.  Greeting cards, written by each member, are taken to the Ollie Steel Burden Manor while members visit with residents.

KD members also volunteer their time at the Children’s Ward by bringing the children holiday appropriate “treat bags.”  Chapter members may play games such as “Bingo” with the patients and lead other activities.  The hospital also holds a Halloween parade in which members participate by taking the children and their families all around the hospital to ‘trick-or-treat’.
