Girl Scouts

 
In 1998, Kappa Delta Sorority joined with the Girl Scouts of the USA “in order to lend hearts and hands to young women everywhere” thus furthering their similar goals of leadership development and community involvement.

Epsilon chapter of Kappa Delta teams up with the Girl Scouts of the USA - Audubon Council in order to host many events for the local troops to participate.

Each year Epsilon hosts at least one spring program and four fall semester programs for Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts to earn various badges.  All of these events are held at the Kappa Delta house on LSU’s campus. 

This past 2008 spring semester Junior Girls Scouts enjoyed our “Looking Your Best” program.  The Girl Scouts learned the essentials of personal hygiene by washing their face and hands, brushing their teeth, and having fun with new hairstyles.  These girls also had an opportunity to tour the entire Kappa Delta house! 

For the upcoming 2008 fall semester, Epsilon has four exciting events planned for the Girls Scouts.  These programs include:

“Drawing and Painting”:  At this program Junior Scouts will be able to experiment with all sorts of media to produce art work.  We will be painting picture frames, creating giant side-walk-chalk murals, and even learning about a famous Kappa Delta artist, Georgia O’Keefe!

“Art to Wear”:  Brownie Girl Scouts will have an opportunity to learn about fashion through the ages and even create some of their own styles to wear today!  At this event we will be painting t-shirts, making bracelets, and creating fun costumes.  The event will end with a fun fashion show!

“Fun and Fit”:  For this event the Girl Scouts will be ready to work out and have fun!  We will be teaching the girls the importance of healthy eating and taking care of their bodies.  They will enjoy doing aerobics and tasting healthy snacks

“Travel Right”:  At our final fall program Brownie Scouts will be getting prepared for their next big vacation.  We will learn about the importance of safe travel while playing packing games, creating personal luggage tags, and marking destinations on maps.

All of the programs held at the Kappa Delta house allow for a great interaction between Kappa Delta’s and the Girl Scouts.  We have a lot fun teaching them and they enjoy seeing how college women live and act.

In addition to creating many valuable opportunities for the Girl Scouts of the USA-Audubon Council, Epsilon of Kappa Delta and the potential new members participating in formal recruitment painted hand-held mirrors during the philanthropy round. The mirrors were then donated to the Girl Scouts to promote a positive self-image.
